: MADRID,26 September 2000
: In respect to recent researchs on my forebears, the family SUTTON-CLONARD; (COUNTS OF CLONARD in the Kingdom of Spain), and whose name was translated to Spanish as "DE SOTTO", during the XVIII century.
: Also it pleases me to inform you that two of my Senior cousins(Joseph M. & Manuel DE SOTTO) have made investigations on the same topic, during 16 years, with positive results. I have to say that Joseph was an Official in the Navy and this has permitted to him, to have access to multitude of Files and Bookstores in Ireland, UK. and other Countries.
: I have here, some of the results of their investigations:
:
: COUNTS DE SUTTON-CLONARD,ANCESTORS (Spain)
: 1.--Luke Sutton of Clonard, b. c1530. Esquire.
: sp. Am Devereux (daughter of Thomas Devereux of Ballimpmaguer).
: 2.--Leonard Sutton of Wexford, b. c1570. Esquire
: sp.Margaret Rofsiter(daughter of Francis Rofsiter, Esquire of Wexford)
: 3.--John Sutton of Old Court, b. c1609. Esquire
: sp. Ellen Devereux(Daughter of Nicholas Devereux,of Ballimmaguer).
: 4.--Edward Sutton of Wexford, b. c.1640. Esquire
: sp.Ellen Ronny(Andrew Ronny Daughter, of Ballidufe,Esq. of Wexford
: 5.--Michael Sutton of Waterford, b.c1668, Esquire > Marine > Shipping.
: sp. Catherine Dalton of Kindalion.
: 6.--Redmond Sutton of Waterford,b.1691,Esquire >
: Marine > Shipping
: Count de Clonard; Tit. given to his son Michael(10.01.1770).
: sp. Isabel Herrera González
:
: 7.-- Michael De Sutton of Cadiz, b. 1725 -
: shipping and merchant.
: First Count de Clonard,In Spain
: sp. Serafina Langton-Carew
:
: 8ª.-- Raymundo de Sutton Langton, b. 1759 - General
: Second Count de Clonard in the Kingdom of Spain
: sp. Ramona Ab-Ach of "Saxony"; 3rd. Marquise de Grenade, in the Kingdom of Spain & Napoly
: And thus until our days, the family DE SUTTON-CLONARD, during 300 years decided to serve in the Spanish armed forces.
: We also know that our remote origins are confused with the family de Neville and De Courtenay Normand Branch,
: Also it is "almost" sure that "forebear",also was ROGER DE SUTTON "THE IRISH"; b. c1230 , considerated father of the Saga of the Counts De Sutton-Clonard, with descendancy in Wexford, Clonard, Waterford, Kildare, etc. and later, in Spain as well as in France
: We have the intention by following investigating the genealogy of our family until its point of origin, (see XI century in Normandy)
: If you have any question about our family, or you are in a position to help us in our family searchs, please do not hesitate to contact me.
