Forrest family, Co. Cork - French Hugenout origins?

My late grandmother was a Forrest from the Whitechurch/Rathpeacon area of Co. Cork, born c.1900.
Some say the Forrests of Cork are descended from French Hugenout settlers c.1600.

Can anyone verify this?
