Seek information about the Hamler/Hammler family who came from Gemmingin, Germany in 1717 to New york, then quickly moved to Somerset Co., New Jersey where they stayed, branching out to Sussex Co., NJ, Morris Co, NJ and Warren Co., NJ.

The family began with Nicholas Hammler and his wife Eva Keller who married in 1698 in Germany. I have tracked their son Nicholas into the 1730's but at this point lose him. Their second son Johannes ("Hans") might have been in New York or New Jersey; there is a son Andreas Hammler who might have stayed in Germany, though the records I have on him show that he was married in the Catholic church when the rest of this Hamler family was Lutheran.

There is a blank space between 1750-1802 whem my GGrandfather William H. Hamler is born in Sussex Co., NJ. He lived from 1802-1854 and with his wife Noyetta (Kindred) Hamler had 9 children, the last of whom was my Grandfather, Cornelius Hamler, who seems to have been born after his father died.

Wm. H. Hamler and wife Noyetta (Kindred) Hamler's children were all born in Sussex Co., NJ where most of them lived out their lives. Their names were:
1.) Gehila (named after her Grandmother Gehila (Losey) Kindred); b. 1830, Sussex Co., NJ; married Mr. Fullington; in the Census of 1850 (NJ) she is shown as living with her parents and her under-one year odl son, Aaron W. Fullington.

2.) Isaac Hamler, b. 1832; m. Mary Paugh.

3.) Mary Ann Hamler, b. 1835, Sussex Co., NJ; there is a "Mary" buried in a broken down part of the cemetery at Tranquility Methodist Cemetery, Sussex Co., NJ with her parents, William H. and Noyetta Hamler.

4.) Susan R. Hamler, b. 1838, Sussex Co., NJ

5.) William H. Hamler, b. 1839, Sussex Co., NJ; m. Annie Townsend; daughter: Ida Hamler. Wm. H. was a Civil War veteran.

6.) Andrew H. Hamler, (1843-1930), Sussex Co., NJ; m. Almyra Shawger; had 7 children. A Civil War vet.

7.) John M. Hamler, b. 1845; m. with three children who died under the age of 25. All are buried at the new Newton Cemetery, Sussex Co.

8.) Elijah ("Lige") Hamler, b. 1846; went to be a drummer in the Civil War, under-age and never seemed to have come home. At least I haven't found any record of him after my father's story that he was told by his father--about "Lige" going to be a drummer in the Civil War underage.

9.) Cornelius G. Hamler (my Grandfather), (1850-1913, Sussex Co.); married twice: m1 1872, Hannah ("Annie") Morgan from Warren Co., m2 ca. 1902, Augusta ("Gussie") Carpenter of Sussex Co.

Cornelius and Gussie's children:

a.) Edna Willeta Hamler (1902-1938, Morris Co., NJ); m Tom Webb; no children. Buried at Locust Hill Cemetery, Morris Co., NJ

b.) Mildred Hamler (1905-1920, Morris Co., NJ); died at age 14.

3.) (John) Kenneth Hamler; b. in Morris Co., in 1908; d. in Los Angeles Co., CA in 1972. Served in WWII from Santa Monica, CA; m1 Lillian sickels; m2 LIVING.

Thanks for any information. My father "Ken Hamler" had friends in New Jersey that he remembered until he died, particularly Al Schiefferstein and Gus and Sis Romano.
