My GG-grandfather is said to have immigrated from Provence, France in about 1790 to Baltimore, MD. His name was Francis G. Lee and he is listed that way in the 1850 Federal Census. He married rather well and became a Planter and Merchant in Port Gibson,MS. He died in 1851 and is buried in Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson.My language expert tells me that his name could not have been Lee but might have been Ley or a variation. The only other information that I have is that he departed from Bordeaux, France for the USA. His middle name could have been Graveline.

Any insights would be most appreciated.
