Have found information on Samuel Baines Litchfield from the date of his birth (1799)till the present day but would like to find out who his father was and I know that his birth mother was Ann Tupling but she died when he was four. I have come up against a brick wall although I know that the family Litchfield were Congregationalists and non- conformist regarding their religion. The other information I have gleaned is that his father (Litchfield I do not know his christian name)remarried so that Samuel would have half-brothers and sisters with the Litchfield surname. Do not know the step mothers name either. Any information would be greatly appreciated either on the Litchfield side or on the Tupling side of the family. Samuel had a grim life and ended up being sent from England on a convict hulk ship to Hobart Tasmania Australia.
When he was 20 he married Susan Giles aged 17 at St Giles Church in Cambridge Cambridgeshire and they had two sons before Samuel become a convict for stealing two Candlesticks valued at 2 shillings. He never really was released and spent the rest of his life there. His sons fared better and managed to become well educated and had a trade one went to Australia the other to New Zealand.Hope someone can enlighten me on the previous history or can help me with some new links to gain some more information.
Regards, Judith Litchfield.
