I am searching for the Scottish origins of Thomas McWhorter who reportedly immigrated from Scotland to New Jersey in America some time before the French & Indian War (1754-1773). Some sources purport that Thomas was a son of Hugh & Jane McWhorter immigrating from Ireland to Deleware in the 1730's or 1750's. This had been discounted by many researchers and therefore, Thomas McWhorter is thought to have immigrated to America independent of Hugh & Jane McWhorter.
I know very little about Thomas McWhorter (1710-17??). I could not find the place of his death, but after immigrating to New Jersey, he had many descendants in the Orange Co., New York area.
Can anyone provide any clues on the Scottish birthplace of Thomas? Alternatively, can anyone tell me what sources to seek to further narrow my search or find out any other pertinent data? Thank you, Marcia McWhorter Kincaid, MAKKincaid@home.com.
