Tina, this is what I found today thru the Calif Death Index and Social Security Index.
Opal Dell Ledson, b. 19 June 1909, d. Aug. 11, 1949 in San Francisco. Her father last lived in Hanford, CA (central valley, south of Fresno).
Stanley Robert Ledson was born 1 May 1869. His mother's maiden name was McIntyre. He died at Mariposa, CA (near Yosemite and Merced and was not born in America.
I also found two other Ledson gentlemen in the Mariposa area who served in WWI:
Wilfred B. Ledson, b. Sept 5, 1910, mother's maiden name was Hough and he died in San Francisco.
George Ledson was b. 2 Aug 1899 in Iowa and lived in Mariposa. He died in Fresno County.
There is a third name: Ledson Beardon, on whom I was not able to obtain much information.
In the Social Security Death Index there are 22 Ledson surname records. You can go to Ancestry.com to see these records. Opal and Stanley Robert are there. There is also a Robert Ledson b.Feb 2, 1901 in Iowa and died Jan 27, 1972 in Merced.
I lastly went to the web site: www.switchboard.com and found a dozen listings for the surname Ledson in Calif. Several are for Sonoma, Napa, and Solano counties - which is the general area you mentioned in your posting. You may wish to drop each one a postcard telling them the vital statistics on your grandmother and grandfather as shown above and ask them if there is any connection to their family tree, or if they knew these people.
On the www.e-bay.com auction board, there was some time ago a Ledson family bible for sale. I tried to get additional information on the purchaser, but the item is no longer in the data base shown online. The item # was 400462550. It had genealogy data from the 1800's. Instead, I have written a letter to e-Bay, Inc., 2145 Hamilton Ave., San Jose, CA 95125 asking if they could share the e-mail address of the purchaser. If a response to my correspondence is received, I will contact you and provide the information. It may be possible that if you tell them you will reimburse the cost of making copies of the information in the Bible, that they will cooperate and provide copies for you to have. Even if you are unsure whether any of your Ledson relatives are in this family tree data, you may wish to keep a copy. As you progress in your research you may find a connection linking various family members.
If it's possible to get a copy of an obituary or newspaper account of Opal's death from the San Francisco Chronicle I will post it on here. Her husband passed away almost one year after Opal's death at a very young 40 years of age.
A wonderful lady, Diane Brown, in Vancouver, B.C., Canada helped me unravel my great-grandfather's death/murder in 1914. Your story reminded me of her kindness, so I'm passing this little bit of help along in honor of Diane Brown.
