My ancestors were joiners on the estates at Fans[Earlston] and Legerwood. The parents of the generation on which I would like some information, were George Mercer and Isabella Purves. Their children were Jean[b.1823] Andrew[b.1825]Alexander[b.1828]Janet[Jessie b.1853]Isabel[B.1832]George[b.1834]James[b.1836]. There were possibly two more children.
Alexander, Jessie and George[my g.grandfather]came to Canada and I have been able to find much information on them. Andrew married Alison Anderson at Gordon on Jan25, 1850. James married Mary Cockburn on June 13,1873.
Jean and Isabel remain question marks since I don't know if, or when they married, and when they died.
There are still many Mercers in the Earlston and Legerwood areas,I have discovered. If any of them, or anyone else with information on the Mercers mentioned above, I would appreciate hearing from them. Some of the information I have may help them complete their family tree.
